famous places
The Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is visited by nearly 2 million people every year. More than 3 million tourists visit Half Dome in Yosemite National Park yearly. Tens or hundreds of thousands of people attend major performances or sporting events.

Many visitors bring cameras to these places. Most record the same scenes from the same several points of view. Casual photographers punch and move on.  Serious photographers converge on 19th century ideals in composition, lighting and focus.

I am drawn to spaces in, around, behind, across the street from well traveled places. I like the sites to either side, so commonly viewed, but rarely photographed or remembered by other visitors. Some of the most telling stories can be discovered just off target of famous scenes at famous places and events.
